Goodbye Scott + new holiday traditions + oldest friend’s visit

Hello hello! How are you all? I am unfortunately feeling a bit under the weather. I caught a cold during my trip in Hartford, and immediately went into weekend-mode so forced the cold to be put on hold…the second I finally had a moment to rest, all the symptoms hit me like a ton of bricks.

But let’s backtrack a bit to a super packed weekend with some wonderful people, shall we?

Friday: goodbye Scott + cozy east village night

Sooo I have some happy and sad news to share…my good friend Scott is leaving NYC by the new year. Happy news, because he’s starting an awesome new job in which I know he’ll excel and be much happier, but sad because he’s one of my closest friends from my job and my life, and it’s always sad to see good friends go.

On Friday, we held a little goodbye dinner for good ol’ Scottie. Luckily, it wasn’t the last time I’d see him – me and Phil are heading to Denver this week for a ski trip in Scott’s hometown!! So the dinner did not feel too nostalgic or sad knowing it wouldn’t be the end. We decided to eat in K-town, Scott’s favorite 😛

Nothing like some hot, soupy, spicy food to get over a cold 🙂

Afterward, Christine and I headed to her place and had some friends over. It was nothing short of a perfect cozy night filled with snuggling up on the couch with blankets, listening to Christmas music, drinking hot chocolate and cider, jamming on the guitar, and chatting/laughing the night away.

Ever since I could remember, I absolutely loved Christmas time and doing all my favorite holiday traditions with family, but ever since moving away from home in college, I’ve had to create new traditions with new friends; I’m so blessed to be ale to share these holiday traditions/memories with friends each year ❤

One highlight of the evening – poppin’ on the tv fireplace! It felt so real, especially sitting next to the space heater.

Saturday: lazy day + girl squad reunion

I woke up Saturday morning feeling a little sicker, so I decided to put off my run. The entire day was spent in my pj’s, being lazy with my roommates, and watching Happy Endings (a fantastic sit com that seriously does not get enough credit! It’s cancelled by now, but you can find it on Hulu Plus – I HIGHLY recommend).

By dinnertime, it was time to meet with Trish at Marta, a super nice, open pizza/Italian place in the lobby of a hotel in Flatiron – A+!! This was some of the best pizza I’ve had in the city. I recommend if you have the chance – also tip is included which is a plus.

After dinner, we headed up to Midtown East for our friend’s holiday party. This was a fun little shindig because it was a reunion of my old Tribeca roommates and our girlfriends we use to go out with. Most everyone there were people I had met through Nicky and Trish, and it was nice to see these familiar faces again 🙂

I called it an early night to get some rest as I wanted to tackle my long run the next morning.

Sunday: old friend in town + movie night

Sunday started off with 5 miles outside – it has been getting really chilly in NYC, so I bundled up in layers upon layers for this one!

Then, it was time to head off to brunch with my oldest friend in the world, Shao Lin! Shao Lin and I were best friends when we were very young. She moved to California when we were around age 7, and we actually did a decent job at keeping in touch; she even came back to New York one summer in high school, and that was the last time I had seen her. It had been almost 10 years!!!

Even though so much time had passed, it honestly felt like we could pick up right where we left off. We were so comfortable being around each other and catching up on our lives. We did all my favorite holiday things in NYC: brunch in LES, thrift shopping in East Village, Union Square holiday market, and the Rockefeller Tree. It was such a treat! 🙂

Shao Lin took off around dinnertime, just in time for me to head over to Christine’s for a cozy movie night. We order Thai food and attempted to watch West World…remind me to never watch sci fi while eating again. I was so freaked out. We vowed to give up on West World and switched over to what we loved most…mindless chick flicks 😉 We tackled How to Best Single next, such a feel good movie! It was everything we both needed, laughing away at Rebel Wilson and stalking all the actors on wikipedia afterward. 😉

While walking back home (yes, I am WALKING DISTANCE from Christine now!), I felt this wonderful moment of peace in my life. It had been a while since I felt that way, but I couldn’t help but chuckle and smile to myself while reflecting on such a fun weekend. It was also snowing (the first of the season!) and I was so happy to pass by these Christmas trees. Not to sound cheesy, but boy did I feel #blessed

Now, after an fun, exhausting, weekend, I am downing Dayquils and cough drops, ready to fight this cold so I can hit the ground skiing in Denver this weekend!!!

Have a good one my friends!
