“Running is my romance. It’s how I fell in love with life…”

Hey there! My name is Charlotte. I’m a transplant in San Francisco after living in NYC for six years. I’m working in actuarial consulting, running as much as I can, and living out a beautiful life in between!

My blog

I made this blog to document my training for different races, to connect with the running community, highlight my travel adventures, and of course, to share the random shenanigans that take place in my day to day. Between work, my weirdo friends, and the craziness of city life, there’s never a dull moment here!

My running story in a nutshell

My running story isn’t too different from most other runners. But to me, it’s very unique and personal, and my journey to becoming the runner I am toady is one of the proudest accomplishments of my life.

I was born and raised in beautiful Hudson Valley in upstate New York, and so I’ve always been drawn to the outdoors and being active. My main sport growing up was swimming, and after I dropped that, I started take on running for fun (and for vanity reasons, I must admit) in late high school.

My wonderful family – I am a middle child!

The first time I ran, I could hardly finish half a mile. I thought to myself I could literally NEVER like running. After years of on-and-off running and building my way to 1 mile, then 2, then 5…I decided to take the plunge and sign up for a half marathon in college.

My first half marathon was everything I thought it would be, and more. I loved everything about training: how it got out of bed in the morning, how each week felt like a miracle that I could run a little more than the previous week, and how I ultimately accomplished something I never thought I could. I loved having time to myself every day to be alone and think through life stuff, unwind, and ride whatever high or low came with the run.

A year later, I ran my first marathon. Let’s just say it changed my life :). Pounding those miles got me through some difficult times. Running became way more than just a way to fit in those skinny jeans. It was how I felt strong, courageous, and constantly inspired.

Since my first marathon, I’ve run four more, and hope to continue running 1-2 marathons per year. I’ve also tapped into my swimming base and raced triathlons/open water races; I love everything about the triathlon, and do hope to continue these too! My ultimate life goal is to be an ironwoman :).

Thank you for stopping by and listening to my story – I’d love to hear your’s!

My life outside running

In the midst of my crazy day to day life, I absolutely love getting out of the city and spending time with nature. Now that I’m on the west coast, weekend road trips through California, visiting new parks/trails, and spending time on any beach I can find are my happy spot.

Another love – MUSIC! My friends and I live for spending time over a cold beer and a concert.

Lastly, I’m super passionate about seeing the world. Some trips that have changed my life: working on a farm in Ireland and Portugal for a summer, backpacking through England/Germany/Greece/Italy/France, tackling the ring road in Iceland, solo roads trip in the Pacific NW and California coast, adventures in Central America, hiking trips across the U.S., and many MANY more adventures to come!

I hope you can find something in common with me, whether you’re a runner or not. At a million thoughts a minute, I run like a girl…just try and keep up 🙂
